Ayr
Ayr has re-established itself as a coal exporting port thanks to the development of large open cast coal mines in the hinterland and substantial orders for that coal from electricity producers in Ireland.  The lines connecting Falkland yard and the dock have been relaid to suit modern M.G.R. operations, and motive power is now mainly classes 56 and 60, with the class 66's starting to appear.  Passenger services at present primarily the preserve of class 328 EMU's on the main services to and from Glasgow, although these units are due to be replaced by the "Juniper" EMU's later this year. Class 156's, in both Strathclyde and Scotrail livery, can be seen on the less frequent Kilmarnock, Girvan and Stranrear services,

This view of Ayr is from the class 315 EMU in Townhead sidings, and the passengers on the train can
claim to be the first, and so far only passengers to arrive in Ayr station in an electric train from the South.
