Strathclyde Termini.
Supersprinter class 156 no. 156456 at East Kilbride
Date opened 1/9/1868
Original company Busby Railway Company
The current terminus at East Kilbride marks the end of a branch which had originally only been intended to go as far as Busby, but which was extended to East Kilbride then later right through to Hamilton.  The line was closed between East Kilbride and Hamilton as early as 1913, but the existing branch is now well patronised and was the subject of a proposed extension to the nearby shopping centre.  Unfortunately the high cost of this venture precluded it's construction.
On the 31st of October 1993, LMS Black 5 no. 44871 "Sovereign" at East Kilbride after working the third and last trip of the day from Glasgow Central.  The special trains were run by Scotrail and the S.R.P.S. to mark the 125th anniversary of the opening of the branch.

Like East Kilbride, Neilston is another station which was not always a terminus, as the line, built by the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire, originally went all the way to Ardrossan Montgomerie Pier.  The line closed as a through route in 1953 and the local service to Uplawmoor ceased in 1964.  A class 303 has run forward into the headshunt and is about to run back into the station to form the next service to Glasgow Central.

Original Company Glasgow, Dunbarton and Helensburgh.
The track layout at Helensburgh follows the pattern of rationalization found at many stations during the last three decades.  The goods yard and M.P.D. were first to go, followed by the carraige sidings.  The final layout with single line operation to Craigendoran Junction dates from the commissioning of Yoker 'Box.
Following electrification, Helensburgh was unusual in retaining semaphore signals in the station area.
